The Ice Cube Project is a collaborative project that draws attention to the rising temperatures of our waters. The project is directed by artists Carol Mickett and Robert Stackhouse.

“To really tell a story, you need all the arts. You need science, you need mathematics, all of them work together. They all use the same creative process. You don’t get new inventions without that.”

Atlantic Transit

“It’s an art performance... The ice cubes are really meant as a thought experiment.” Artist-At-Sea participants Carol Mickett and Robert Stackhouse explain one of their projects while crossing the Atlantic Ocean on R/V Falkor.

The Spirit of Falkor

"Ships do have spirits... they are much more than just metal!" #ArtistAtSea participants Carol Mickett and Robert Stackhouse are seeking to represent "the spirit" of our research vessel by honoring the crew, remembering the past, and looking ahead to the future.

Artist Talk / Leepa-Rattner

Contemporary artists Carol Mickett and Robert Stackhouse discuss their collaborative work, including national sculptural installations and large-scale paintings that explore the nature of water. Their exhibition "Balance of Water" at the Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art (May 21-Aug. 27, 2022) explores the unseen forces of climate change on our waterways. Here, they create a forum where science and art converge and try to fine creative solutions to mitigate it.
